Lesson 6: Graphing Linear Functions

Use slope-intercept form to generate graph points.

For a line in slope-intercept form, slope controls steepness and direction, while the intercept sets where the line crosses the y-axis.

Key formula

y=mx+by=mx+b

Worked example

y=6x4,  x=0y=4y=6x-4,\;x=0\Rightarrow y=-4

Checkpoint

If y=4x+5, find y at x=1\text{If }y=4x+5\text{, find }y\text{ at }x=1

Recap

  • - Slope m determines rise over run.
  • - The y-intercept b is the point (0, b).
  • - Two correct points are enough to draw a line.
