Lesson 5: Graphing Linear Functions

Use slope-intercept form to generate graph points.

For a line in slope-intercept form, slope controls steepness and direction, while the intercept sets where the line crosses the y-axis.

Key formula

y=mx+by=mx+b

Worked example

y=2x2,  x=3y=4y=2x-2,\;x=3\Rightarrow y=4

Checkpoint

If y=2x+2, find y at x=4\text{If }y=-2x+2\text{, find }y\text{ at }x=-4

Recap

  • - Slope m determines rise over run.
  • - The y-intercept b is the point (0, b).
  • - Two correct points are enough to draw a line.
